Teachers in Tendring will have the chance to visit St Osyth Priory for free in recognition of their hard work during Covid-19.

As a thank you to educators, St Osyth Priory and Parish Trust is hosting an exclusive event for teachers and their families during the Summer holiday.

Children will have an opportunity to take part in craft activities inspired by the estate’s rich medieval and natural heritage, trying their hand at making beeswax wraps, illuminated manuscripts and bug hotels. Their parents will enjoy tea and cake in the tranquility of the beautiful Victorian rose garden.

Educators at the St Osyth Priory Education Centre will reveal the centuries-old story of the Priory and its inhabitants, giving teachers the refreshing chance to be students for the day.

The public can buy tickets for a similar programme (which does not include refreshments) on different dates.

Working together, the Sargeant family and the St Osyth Priory and Parish Trust secured a Culture Recovery Fund grant to launch the new Priory Education Centre and the team is now developing an exciting paid-for education programme for schools from September.

Tim Sargeant said: ‘We want to thank teachers in Tendring for what they’ve done to help support children through the pandemic. It is fantastic to be able to welcome them to St Osyth Priory and we hope they enjoy a well-earned summer break after an extremely challenging academic year.’

The Priory Education Centre hosted 700 children and teachers from 13 Tendring schools during a school visits showcase programme in July.

Education Manager Laura Chesover said: ‘This gave us a chance to hear about local teachers’ experience of virtual lessons and class bubbles and it brought home just how hard the past year has been. This summer we understand that teachers need a really good break more than ever. We want to extend our thanks by inviting them to take a moment to relax and recharge at St Osyth Priory.’
